This year the Irish Ergonomics Society has the pleasure of holding its annual conference in conjunction with the Safety in Health Systems Group. The conference will be of interest to those interested in human factors challenges and emerging approaches in healthcare. The event will also retain diverse ergonomics presentations from across the discipline during the afternoon session. The conference will include presentations from ergonomics and human factors professionals, distinguished invited keynote speakers, and health care professionals with an interest in applying human factors methods.

The call for presentations is now open. Presentations are invited under two streams:

1) Morning session: Human Factors in Healthcare systems

For the morning session, presentations are invited on basic and applied research addressing human factors/ergonomics issues in healthcare or presenting novel and emerging approaches to understanding the complexity of the health system.

2) Afternoon session: Human Factors and Ergonomics outside healthcare

For the afternoon session, presentations are invited on basic and applied research addressing diverse ergonomics challenges. Industry case studies from practitioners are also encouraged.


The Irish Ergonomics Society Annual General Meeting will be held after the conclusion of the conference at around 17.30 at the conference venue.

Dates for your diary:

- Indication of intent to submit a paper: 6th April
- Submission of abstract/paper: 20th April
- Final abstract of paper: 4th May
- Closing date for registration: 18th May
- Conference: 31st May


Presenters are required to write either a short abstract or paper. Papers will be subject to peer review. Selected abstracts and papers will be reproduced in a book of proceedings titled “Irish Ergonomics Review 2018”. Proceedings will have an ISSN number and will be available internationally through the British Library.

Registration fees

- Student fee: €40
- IES members Associate/full member/fellows: €40
- Negotiated HSE rate: €40
- Non IES members: €80

The registration fee will include attendance for the full days of the conference, a copy of the digital conference proceedings, and lunch.
